Fort Walton Beach + Mary Esther

Fort Walton Beach and Mary Esther are a vibrant suburban areas close to both Hurlburt and Eglin. Both have strong military communities with an eclectic mixture of storefronts and restaurants, and also hosts a biweekly farmers market with fresh fruits and vegetables, arts and crafts, and food trucks.

Crestview

Crestview is a city on the Florida Panhandle located 22 miles from Eglin Air Force Base. It is an ideal location because it is settled far enough away from high-traffic tourism areas to enjoy a quiet and comfortable lifestyle, but still close enough to have access to nearby beaches and family-friendly entertainment spots in the neighboring areas.

  • Fair assortment of fast food, grocery stores, and shopping.

  • Housing market is highly affordable.

  • New construction is available with larger square footage starting in the 250k+ range.

  • Rapidly developing.

  • Great for Duke and Eglin.

Visiting Crestview?

Blackwater River State Park is a great place for canoeing, kayaking, fishing and hiking.

Niceville

Niceville is closer to Eglin Air Force Base, and has more of a quiet small town atmosphere than surrounding areas. Residents choose Niceville because it is farther away from higher traffic tourist areas, but close enough to still enjoy the many perks of living on the Gulf Coast, with plenty of affordable housing options.

  • Great proximity to Mid Bay Bridge (Destin).

  • Access to bays and bayous.

  • Good variety of seafood restaurants.

  • Grocery stores and chain restaurants are numerous.

  • Known for their school district.

  • Great location for Duke and Eglin.

Visiting Niceville?

Make sure you schedule your visit around the first Saturday of every month to hit up the Niceville Farmer’s Market.

Navarre/Gulf Breeze

Navarre, a short trip from Hurlburt Field, is home to Florida’s best kept secret- Navarre Beach. This beach is a gorgeous stretch of picturesque emerald-blue waves and snow white sands nestled comfortably in between Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola. This quiet military town is a perfect place for a family to settle down and still be in fair proximity to more urban areas.

  • Close to Pensacola which is a great place to visit with a “city feel.”

If you are looking for an up and coming area with affordable options, Freeport is a wonderful area to add to your search. This area is a manageable commute to Eglin.
